“The Powah of Donuts!”

Donuts, flying & floating, super powers, and more donuts. These are the dreams I pictured when I came across Kyaulu Htet’s whimsical drawing. His friendly golden god-like beings hovering in the sky, arms extended with the gift of deliciously plump donuts. Alternatively they could be super heroes, patrolling the skies above, using their super-donut powers to rid the world of corruption and evil. Either way, donuts for the win!

Auckland based artist & certifiable weirdo Michael Kennedy (aka Malangeo) creates wonderfully weird portraits of “creepy-cute” critters, macabre beasties & zombie couch turnips. His work is a unique blend of traditional oil painting techniques and contemporary pop surreal style. Brought up on the irreverent humour of cartoons and comics like The Farside and Calvin & Hobbes; his art oozes of whimsical charm, dark humour and pop culture references. Michael has held solo shows at The Depot Artspace & Satellite gallery; and has been in group shows in galleries around Auckland & Wellington to as far afield as North Carolina.
