“Blessing given blessing received (let all the children boogie-dinosaurs or aliens)

This painting is inspired by ‘Hell Boy’. Rather than the negative existential pop narrative the boys title suggested, which would have been the typical analysis my earlier self would have be drawn to, I went with a more pop surreal psychedelic-divinity spirituality angle … using the fishing metaphor as a notion around the ‘avatar’ concept of our higher self. Into this world integrating the angel we truly are.  I suppose until we mature, cultivate and grow up as self, society and race, we are hell boys fishing in the ocean (of suffering.)

James has been showing in New Zealand for 20 years in a variety of venues including museums, artist run spaces and dealers. James shows paintings, drawings, installations, films, and sculpture assembled in site specific capacities. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otago Art School and has won the Wallace Award. James has worked in New York, Berlin and traveled in developing countries like Nepal, Thailand and Morrocco and is a Qi Gong practitioner.
He is a  ‘survivor’ and identifies with the trauma experience by the children
from Burma.
